About the BQIA......In 1938, with concern over the increasing year round population and development on the peninsula, the Bowleys Quarters Improvement Association (BQIA) was incorporated by a group of property owners. Its hope was “to promote and assure consented activity in all matters pertaining to the proper development; improvement; and maintenance of that portion of Baltimore County known as Bowleys Quarters and vicinity thereof”. Since 1938, the BQIA has been actively addressing water and sewerage issues, population growth, zoning, development, watershed protection, Martin State Airport noise and traffic, road and drainage maintenance, public services, air and water quality, and any issues that may impact the integrity of the area. All on a volunteer basis. We invite you to join us at one of our monthly meetings and get involved in our community. | Next Meeting: May 9, 2024 @7PMOur May 9th, 7:00PM General Meeting is a very full one. Our first speaker, Stuart M. Levine, MD, FACP, is President of MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center and Senior Vice President for MedStar Health. He oversees the overall operational and strategic direction for one of the largest community teaching hospitals in Maryland. Dr. Levine has extensive experience in patient care, clinical research, and executive medical leadership at several local hospitals, including faculty positions at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He will provide an update on the programs and services at Franklin Square, and the larger role it plays in serving our community. Our second speakers, Mr. Payam Asban, Traffic Engineering Team Leader, and Erin Kuhn, Assistant District Engineer for Traffic, from the Maryland Department of Transportation (MDOT) will be addressing the findings and suggestions to come out of the recent traffic safety study addressing Eastern Blvd from Rt 43 to Bowleys Quarters Rd. Those suggestions include: an additional traffic light, installing a signal detector, extending the existing center turn lane, a median to restrict left turns, and restricting side street access. All of these have pros and cons and require ongoing conversation. This meeting is informational, with broader community outreach planned for the future. As this area continues to be impacted by growth and development, both short term and long term goals need to be considered. The May Meeting will also be the deadline to submit nominations for BQIA Board Member or Officer. See you then!
